Warming is exacerbating the loss of biodiversity caused by urbanization.

Scientists came to these conclusions after studying the diversity of mammals in 20 cities in the USA and Canada.

These species include the Sumatran orangutan, the Amur leopard, the Sumatran elephant, the black rhinoceros, the Cross River gorilla and many others.

Over the previous ten years, the population of these animals has decreased by 89-90%.

Without these animals, populations of other species could grow to levels that could become hazardous to the health of humans and animals.
